F1 and Rolex racing this weekend. On the grand prix side of things, we've had six different race winners over the first six races, yet there are some familiar company at the top of the manufacturer and driver championship point standings. The F1 race is on FOX this Sunday, so be sure to check the pre-show on SPEED at 1:30pm. Much in the same vane as Grand Prix: The Killer Years, Velocity is airing a special covering the 1955 Le Mans Disaster; the single most infamous tragedy in motorsport, resulting in the deaths of over 80. Both of these Velocity channel specials are abridged (TV-14) versions of the BBC originals, so if you look for torrents online you can see them both in entirety. The one thing that sticks with me from both of these films is that advancing technology severely outpaced safety in motorsport prior to the late 70's. Even today, despite all of the advances in safety equipment the cars and drivers wear, as long as a track has major flaws in design anything can go wrong. RIP to all racecar drivers, spectators and track workers killed over the years doing what they loved. Enjoy your weekends and drive safe.
